Briarwood Stokowski

Stravinsky xx x Gribaldi x Balzflug

Dam: Victoria Vribraldi

14th May 2010

Alfie was born in May 2010, our first foal of the 2010 season. He was incredibly special, as not only did his sire Stravinsky die in 2009, but sadly his dam sire Gribaldi also passed away in February of 2010.

Stravinsky was not only a champion racehorse in Poland, but went on to excel at dressage, competing up to Intermediare II in both Sweden and Denmark. He was approved for breeding with the majority of Warmblood studbooks including the Trakehner, Oldenburg and WBS(UK).

The most famous of Gribaldi offspring is no doubt the record-breaking Moorlands Totillas, but he also sired other champions such as the eventer Wish Upon A Star and numerous dressage stallions including Hofrat and Painted Black. He was named Trakehner Stallion of the Year in 2008 but was also a successful dressage competitor himself with rider Edward Gal.

In July 2010, Alfie went to his first competition, the BEF Futurity at Solihull Equestrian Centre. Despite a 4am start, and his first trip in a lorry, not to mention the bath and plaiting the day before, Alfie behaved perfectly. He was awarded an excellent veterinary mark of 9, and overall gained a High First Premium in the eventing category. We were thrilled with his impeccable manners and delightful attitude; we couldn’t have been more proud of him.

In 2013, Alfie found his ideal home with Rebecca. We were devastated to learn that Alfie passed away in October 2013, not long after starting his ridden career. He was truly an exceptional young horse and we feel privileged to have been a part of his life.
